What Facebook’s News Feed Change Means for Marketing Your Brand
Facebook announced in the beginning of 2018 plans to completely change the news feed.
So what do these changes mean for marketing your brand on the platform?
Well, it means Facebook is making it even harder to organically market your business.
“You’ll see less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media. And the public content you see more will be held to the same standard – it should encourage meaningful interactions between people,” founder Mark Zuckerberg explained in a statement about the change.
Apparently, the news feed algorithm modification was derived from a study that found “passively consuming articles or videos that don’t spark engagement or interaction is bad for a person’s mood.”
In addition to marketing materials, like branded written content, we’ll also see less video content in our news feeds.
Things that will get the most organic traffic on Facebook will be content shared by friends and family, posts that ask for advice or ask for information and recommendations, in addition to news articles that prompt discussion.
Now, this doesn’t mean you should get your business off Facebook all together. The social media giant will continue to offer paid advertising on the platform which will help get your content seen by more people – but expect these ad costs to gradually increase as ad space on the newsfeed decreases.
Going forward, it will be important to create meaningful content – producing videos and articles that tell a story and encourage interaction from your fans.
Facebook has been heading in this direction for quite some time. While it’s still a good idea to have a
Facebook business page, know that you will have to spend some money to see real results.
As you continue to grow your social efforts, diversify where you promote your brand. Because of Facebook’s news feed changes, other sites like Twitter and Instagram are great places to build a social audience right now.
