Facebook Update: Business Pages Now Allowed to Join Groups

Can we just say, FINALLY!

Facebook released a small, yet important, update over the weekend – testing a function that would allow Facebook business pages to join groups, comment and interact within these groups as their business page.

"We've heard from people that engaging with public figures, non-profits, publishers, and businesses in a more intimate setting can be meaningful. We previously launched the ability for Pages to start Facebook Groups so that they can engage with their communities. We are now testing the ability for Pages to join existing Facebook Groups as well,” a spokesperson for the social media giant told Social Media Today.

The news has marketers buzzing everywhere, especially since most businesses and marketers alike have noticed major declines in organic reach on the on the platform, thanks to new algorithm shifts.

As a Facebook business page, having the opportunity to interact with groups as your business is a great way to increase online exposure and generate greater brand awareness.

If you take a look on the platform, you should see the “Allow Pages to request to join as group members” active on group pages, unless a specific group has chosen not to let Pages join.

This is all part of Facebook’s push to make groups a bigger, more important feature on the platform – and we think it’s a great move for marketing your business on the site.

While this won’t exactly tackle the organic reach problem on Facebook – as it’s moved into a pay-to-play era -- it is a step in the right direction for making Facebook a business friendly platform again.
